MADRID, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Spanish construction companies have failed to bid in 1,455 tenders for state projects so far this year after concluding the offer prices would not cover their costs, the main building association said on Friday.

Rampant inflation in the price of construction materials and energy is hampering ambitious government plans to boost infrastructure works until 2026, with billions of euros earmarked by the EU for post-pandemic economic stimulus.

In other parts of the complex, revellers looked at painted bullet-proof vests hanging from the ceiling and queued for plates of Ukrainian dumplings and borsch served by women with blue and yellow ribbons weaved into their hair.

The group said the number of failed bids had reached a record high this year - including hospital refurbishments, road extensions and energy-poor residential housing projects - with some relaunched at higher prices months after the initial attempts.

In one room at the Alte Muenze, artist Vitalii Shupliak explained the meaning behind a work comprising two prints showing buttered bread with nails poking through the surface. The images are mounted on separate stacks of cages.

"You can get the idea that Ro CEO Zachariah Reitano says the benefits of being a private company are growing construction sector is not addressing the challenge, when tenders are not being issued at the right price," the group's president, Pedro Fernandez Allen, told a press conference.

The 'Art Weapon' event - which opened at Berlin's sprawling Alte Muenze complex on Saturday - also featured live painting by Ukrainian artists, Ukrainian-language theatre and the chance to sit for a Ukrainian tattoo artist.

Running non-stop till Sunday morning, the marathon event sold more than 1,000 tickets two hours after opening, its organisers said. It's aim - to show that Ukrainian contemporary culture has been flourishing since the start of the war.
